The Maus Movies / TV VideoThe Maus - Nazi Germany's Biggest Tank 7/28/ · The Maus is further bolstered by strong performances, the leading actress’ in particular, and effective, claustrophobia inducing camerawork. A question or two may well be raised about Herrero’s decision to add a supernatural element to the film. But what it loses in narrative efficacy it makes up for with a justification that buttresses the 3/5.

She later sees Alex getting killed by a shotgun. Alex always tries to maintain a neutral position, telling Selma constantly that he is her guardian angel but in reality he is not understanding what she is going through.
She knows there is something wrong going on, but Alex does not listen and later on Selma is proved to be right, or at least in her own imagination.
Due to the events happening, we are sure Selma is suffering greatly, but we do not know what is really going on with the events happening. What is real and what is made up by her?
Later on, Alex, who is still alive discovers his girlfriends deeds and is unsure if he should stay with her or not. His fear gets worse when he find Selma bashing one of the Serbs head in with a rock, thing he could not do himself.
She is the blurry woman responsible for the bomb at the end the one carrying the weapon , a terrorist. My guess and interpretation is that the beginning of the movie is something completely made up by her, living again her childhood traumas during the war.
I am unsure if at the end of the film they already knew each other or not. It seems not, probably his lack of fear of her and his compassionate approach makes her think of him as her "guardian angel".
And that leaves all the scenes in the forest with him being her boyfriend as her internal battle between good and evil. Between Alex guardian angel her other self the alien like demon in the forest and her fear of her past and the war The Serbians.
The ending is a little confusing, there are several theories out there that can explain the final scene. For me, it made sense that all the forest scenes is in her mind is her internal battle.
She is fighting against her past, fighting between whats good and wrong and against her fear and trauma of living such terrible things in her youth.
First lets praise the camera man for capturing great close ups and degree shots. Unfortuntely about everything else about this movie plot, characters, story Line etc.
Is one practising film making attempt, demo version type at its best. Recommend for film students. MetroSkunk 5 July I'm not sure which was worse, the movie or reading the reviews praising the movie.
It was terrible. Great premise made bad by a plot way too slow to develop, confusing plot motivators, and a total WTF? Unfortunately the film misses the mark, with an overlong runtime compared to the story itself.
It has some very tense moments, and the first act does a good job in building tension. The third act begins the letdown, and what would have been a 3rd act climax is achieved at about the 60 min mark.
What follows is 30 min of drama that whilst interesting, becomes tedious. Many reviews have commented that this should not be classified as horror, and this is correct.
If you watch the film expecting horror movie you will be disappointed. The characters and acting were acceptable, but they were let down by the plot that was not as coherent as it should have been.
This would have been a better film if limited to min and ending with the climax in act 2. Otherwise, more action and twists are required to keep our attention.
The final scene is confused, and rather than opening up to our interpretation, we are left with a feeling that the movie is trying to say too much without actually articulating what it wants to convey.
I would love to see this concept redone either as a short film, or with additional plot in a feature length movie. As it is, however, it is an overall disappointment.
The positives: Good scenery and characters. The forest setting was both open and expansive, whilst also feeling closed and oppressive.
The threat of landmines kept the protagonists from simply running away, and helped to maintain tension.
The negatives: Pacing and plot. This was slow when it did not have to be. The initial act was paced well as we expect slow reveals and a more subdued pace in the expectation of a twist.
However, the pace remained slow and never built to satisfying crescendo. The film, at different times, feels like a horror, a drama, and a thriller.
This can be an entertaining combination, but not when different scenes seem not to know how they fit into the overall movie.
Also, by ending as drama, the tension is removed, and this is not relieving but frustrating. Sadly, I am not surprised to see bad ratings here, certainly from people used to "stimulus-horror" movies, where you have to jump out of your sit each minutes in order to consider it as something nice.
This movie is at the edge of the psychological thriller. It is really rooted in anguish, with a mysterious, dark and heavy atmosphere.
The atmosphere is fed by many long single take tracking shots - no edits, no cuts. It contributes more than largely to the "breath-taking" feeling that the movie creates.
The deep forest fits the story perfectly, and create a situation where everything can happen without anyone near to help.
Add to this the fact that the story takes place in the Srebrenica massacre frame, we constantly wonder if the paranoia of the main character is legitimate or not.
I highly recommend it, but avoid if you want blood and stimulus. Don't destroy its rating for any reasons, there is something great to watch here!
This movie suffers from constant close ups that fail to create a sense of intensity, retracts its own story elements multiple times, repeats itself constantly, and uses absolute darkness to a hopelessly annoying degree.
For a species governed by hope, nothing can be scarier than sheer hopelessness. Herrero is keenly aware of what drives his film: Selma and her faith, bled and assaulted by life as it may be.
It results in a mostly harrowing visual experience that tries hard to cut through the fog of war to the human factor shivering haplessly beyond it.

Trivia Maus Name Meaning. German: nickname for someone supposedly resembling a mouse, in appearance or timidity, from Middle High German mus 'mouse'.
Goofs In the very first scene a character is trying to drive a 4x4 with one back wheel in a hole. The vehicle is moving forwards with considerable force, although not able to climb out.
The driver then gives up trying, saying the axle is broken. This makes no sense, since we have just seen effective power being delivered to a wheel that has traction.
